Contigo (and Soon, Gardner) Get a New Pastry Chef

Perpetual hot spot Contigo has just appointed a new pastry chef: Stephen Cak is taking the reins and will oversee all the bread and pastry operations at the restaurant. He'll also handle the pastry side of things for Gardner, the upcoming vegetable-focused project from Contigo owners Andrew Wiseheart and and Ben Edgerton that's expected to open this fall on East Sixth.

An Iowa native, Cak's most recent gig was as executive pastry chef for Shawn Cirkiel's restaurant group, which includes Olive & June and Chavez; after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, he worked at famed NYC restaurants Cafe Gray and Aquavit before moving to Austin. Cak's new creations hit the Contigo menu this Friday; his additions will include highlights include a Texas blueberry parfait with blueberry gelée, white chocolate mousse and oatmeal streusel, and a couple new brunch items including a bourbon caramel-glazed cardamom-pecan coffee cake and blueberry cake doughnuts.
