Popular local pastry chef Plinio Sandalio is leaving The Carillon for Houston, The Statesman reports. The chef is taking a position at Houston's JW Marriott in order to be closer to his family.
Sandalio was nominated for a James Beard Award for "Best Pastry Chef" while at Textile in Houston, and appeared on Iron Chef America. He helped to open Congress with David Bull, and his active Instagram account captures his love of eating around Austin. The Carillon tells The Statesman a new pastry chef will be announced "soon."
Update! A rep for The Carillon provides the management's full statement: "We at the Carillon are thankful for chef Sandalio's time and contributions to the kitchen over the last two-plus years. We wish him all the best as he heads to his hometown of Houston to be closer to his family. The Carillon looks forward to announcing our new pastry chef soon."
