Beloved taco patriarch and Tamale House #3 owner Robert Vasquez has died, and reactions are pouring in from across the web. His family at Tamale House East tweet: "So moved by the outpouring of love, support & kind words for our Uncle Bobby today." Tamale House thanks their patrons via Facebook for their condolences, and says the restaurant will be closed "until further notice."
The crew at Taco Journalism have posted their oral history interview with Vasquez, in which he describes the birth of the breakfast taco craze. Food blogger R.L. Reeves remembers Vasquez as a generous provider of cheap, high-quality tacos, and notes, "It takes an insane amount of hard work and dedication to keep even the most modest of taquerias in the black." A Reddit thread features memories of the cheap, sustaining tacos, and longtime fan Phil West tweets "'Thank you for feeding me my entire adult life.'"
Update: Dates for Vasquez's memorial and funeral mass have been announced.
