Tamale House Owner Robert Vasquez Dies, Restaurant's Future is Unclear

Tamale House owner and patriarch Robert Vasquez has passed away, The Statesman reports. Tamale House is currently closed, and it's unclear when the restaurant might reopen.

Vasquez's niece Carmen Valera, who owns offshoot restaurant Tamale House East on East 6th, tells The Statesman it's possible Vasquez's children could take over at Tamale House, but she is not aware of any concrete plans. Melanie Haupt of The Chronicle has posted a photo of the sign on the door, which reads "No deliveries until further notice / Closed." The owners of nearby restaurant Your Mom's Burger Bar have also posted a brief remembrance.
