A sign for "Black's BBQ" has popped up in the window of the former Boomerang's space on Guadalupe, The Statesman reports. No Austin expansion plans have been confirmed by the historic Lockhart restaurant of the same name, but Black's is expanding to San Marcos, and an Austin location has been rumored as well.
The Lockhart Black's Barbecue is run by Kent Black; his brother Terry and nephews Mike and Mark split from the business and, after a fight over using the family name, are opening Terry Black's Barbecue on Barton Springs. Eater has reached out to Black's for comment; watch this space for updates.
Update! The Statesman has confirmed that Black's will be moving into that location this summer, though they won't be smoking on-site. Per The Statesman:
The Blacks will bring in their barbecue daily from the Lockhart location. . . Kent Black also reiterated that Terry Black's Barbecue, owned by his brother and nephews and set to open soon, is not affiliated with Black's of Lockhart, though he wishes them the best.
Update 2! Eater has more details from Kent Black.
