Lustre Pearl, the bar that kicked off Rainey Street's transformation and crowned entrepreneur Bridget Dunlap queen, is celebrating its final weekend in business. The Austin Business Journal reports that the bar is closing as scheduled to make way for condos, and Dunlap is not going quietly. She will celebrate the bar's last night with a Stevie Nicks tribute band, starring Dunlap as Stevie.
Dunlap told Eater last fall that she hoped to move "my beautiful Lustre," but according to the ABJ "no progress" has been made in finding the bar a new home. Lustre Pearl was recently hit with a $40,000 fine from TABC for overserving a patron who later died behind the wheel. Dunlap's other three Rainey Street bars, Bar 96, Clive Bar, and newly opened Container Bar are currently unaffected by Rainey's development boom.
