COCKTAIL WIRE —The Tipsy Texan David Alan announced the date of next year’s Official Drink of Austin contest: February 26th at the Fair Market between 7-10pm. Austin cocktailer craftspeople will whip up drinks that they believe represent the city. Last year’s winners were Qui’s Justin Elliott's tepache concoction, and the Four Seasons, which won the people’s choice award with their Red Headed Stranger. [EaterWire]

MOCKTAIL WIRE — Tis the season to be drinking booze but sometimes there needs to be a break, so the Austin Chronicle thoughtfully highlighted mocktails for the holidays with Drink.Well’s Jessica Sanders, along with offering liquor-free drink suggestions. [Austin Chronicle]

SOUTH CONGRESS — Jo’s Coffee Shop is hosting the ninth iteration of the Chili Cook-Off on Sunday, February 1, from 12-3pm. The participating restaurants haven’t been announced yet, but expect Frank to serve cheese fries along with the chili dishes. The winning chili will be served for a month at Jo’s atop a hot dog with a Shiner, the sponsor of the event. [EaterWire]
