Manor Road restaurant The Salty Sow attempted mixing booze and politics last night and sparked a Twitter controversy instead. The restaurant ran an 'Obama Care Margarita' on their menu, described as: "Blanche frozen margarita with Chambord * $1 will go to help covering Obama care costs."
A patron tweeted out an image of the menu asking, "what's up w the @FoxNews sponsored menu crap?" A number of similarly aghast Austinites chimed in. The Salty Sow tweeted an apology, and a representative for the restaurant passes along the following statement to Eater:
On last night's menu, we made a tongue-in-cheek reference to a hot button topic. We apologized to those who were offended and have removed it from the menu.
Here's the original tweet and responses which prompted the restaurant to pull the cocktail:
Are people truly mad at the salty sow for a bad joke about Obamacare? So much for anyone in Austin having a sense of humor.— James Cameron (@jcsie) November 21, 2014
We send our sincere apologies to anyone offended by our cocktail tonight. It has been removed from our menu.— Salty Sow (@SaltySow) November 21, 2014
