New neighborhood bar The Aristocrat Lounge is putting the finishing touches on the old Poodle Dog Lounge space at 6507 Burnet Road. Scheduled to open sometime this month according to their Facebook page, the new lounge will retain much of the Poodle-era decor, but the bar will get an upgrade. Promising "booze for all," The Aristocrat nabbed a liquor license and will offer barrel-aged cocktails in addition to beer.

Over the summer, The Aristocrat Lounge’s owner Randall Stockton spoke to Austin American-Stateman’s John Kelso, who poked fun at naming the famous dive after landed gentry. Stockton explained that the name was a joke; he, along with his wife Donya, own several bars in Austin, including Beerland and Rio Rita. The Poodle Dog shuttered suddenly a year ago along the rapidly changing Burnet strip.
