After receiving numerous noise complaints from nearby condos, Cedar Street Courtyard, an open-air music venue on West 4th., was selected for a pilot program in which the city of Austin provided matching loans in order to re-tool their sound system. New Bose speakers and noise-control panels reduced noise complaints by 88%. The Music Venue Assistance program will now allocate $100k a year for noise-control loans in the city budget, but with 988 noise complaints downtown between February and April of 2012, that money will have to stretch far.
