Chef Rene Ortiz OUT at La Condesa and Sway

Rene Ortiz has departed his position as executive chef of La Condesa and Sway. Scrumptious Chef posted that "Ortiz is out" earlier today, and Eater has confirmed with a spokesperson that, "This is indeed true."

The spokesperson continues that, "the transition has been many months in the making after an incredible 5-year relationship. Jesse Herman and the team are excited to see what Rene does next and wish him all the best. The talent at La Condesa and Sway is very deep and we do not expect to miss a beat."

Ortiz, who grew up near San Antonio, moved to Austin in 2009 to help open La Condesa, which was a semifinalist for the 2010 James Beard Best New Restaurant award. He ushered in Sway Thai in late 2012.
