The Texas Department of Agriculture wants everyone out and eating Texas this week. Thanks to the sixth annual GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, by supporting participating local restaurants, diners can help feed others while they get their feed on.
More than 400 restaurants across the state are helping gain awareness of local food products while raising money for Texas food banks. The term "local" is used quite loosely, as according to the list of participating restaurants we have more than 20 "local" McDonald's serving "local" Texas beef.
For those looking for a narrower definition of "local," below are special menu items worth checking out through Sunday, July 28.
24 Diner's Market Plate:
Grilled watermelon salad with blistered shishito peppers, shaved cucumber, mint and chile vinaigrette. Produce sourced from Dilorio Farms (Hempstead), Josh Ruiz (Alamo) and Johnson's Backyard Garden (Austin).
Burro Cheese Kitchen's Fudge Brownie:
Fudge brownie with house-made chocolate sauce and Kosmic Kombucha.
Easy Tiger's Hill Country Board:
Venison liver and heart pâté (Broken Arrow Ranch, Ingram, TX), smoked venison sausage (Broken Arrow Ranch, Ingram, TX), hop-pickled okra (Martinez Farm, Pleasanton, TX) and local cherry tomato jam (Oak Hill Farms, Poteet, TX) served with Brooklyn Lager house-made mustard and house-made pain au levain.
