A "more upscale" incarnation of North Lamar Thai restaurant Titaya's may reopen in October, according to SPIN Modern Thai chef Ek Timrerk, whose sister Titaya owns the eponymous Thai spot. Titaya's shuttered for "renovations" just before Christmas 2012, promising to open again in a couple of months. But now it's June, and the people are growing restless without their hot pots and papaya salads. Timrerk tells Zagat:
"She's doing a whole new renovation. She's redoing everything, the interior design. She's expanding the kitchen, redoing the dining rooms, new complete look. She's going to keep a little more than half of the menu, the popular items. Then I'm going to help her create a special menu, something like that, to go with it. We're going to try to make it a little more upscale."The restaurant itself has been completely quiet for months—no construction vans, no activity inside—but Timrerk says construction "should be done by the end of August or early September," after which he'll spend a month helping his sis revamp the menu with "some more modern stuff."
