El Chile To Ride The South First Wave, Close On Manor

New, 27 comments

After nearly ten years in business on Manor Road, El Chile is making a move down south to buzzing South First Street, or "SoFi" as it is affectionately known to people who like to get made fun of by their friends. They'll be taking over the shuttered La Reyna space. Via a press release sent this afternoon:

"With so many new and exciting restaurants opening on South First Street, we think that a familiar face will be a welcome change of pace for South First Street diners," says owner Carlos Rivero. "We love our Manor location and are glad to still have a presence in that neighborhood with El Chilito and Flat Top Burger Shop."
Designer Joel Mozersky—think Uchi, the Highball, Malverde, La Condesa—is "fast at work" on the interior, and executive chef Jeff Martinez will introduce new menu items at the new space when it opens at the end of May.

Rivero, a South Austin resident himself, also owns El Alma on Barton Springs, where he tells Eater Austin he's also hoping to renovate an aging parking lot into a more accommodating area for patrons to park.
