Benji's Cantina, the new Tex-Mex venture from the group behind the Brew Exchange and Kung Fu Saloon, officially opens today on West Sixth Street. Chioco Design's wood finishes, bright greens and blues and vintage touches—they turned an old safe found in the building into a host stand—open up the space, which features lawn chairs and stadium-style tiered seating on the sprawling rooftop deck.
On the menu, per the official press release: "time-honored dishes with a modern twist," from Blake Keely, a veteran of the Roaring Fork and the UT Club, including fajitas by the pound, cocktel de camarones, and a chicken tortilla soup "presented with rich pasilla-chile broth." To drink? Mexican beers, margaritas and mescal con gusano.
Benji's Cantina hours are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and 4 p.m. to midnight Thursday through Saturday.
