Cheer Up Charlie's Moving to Old Club de Ville Space

The Chronicle reports that beloved queer-friendly bar Cheer Up Charlie's is moving to 900 Red River in the old Club de Ville space. The venue has also previously been home to iconic lesbian-owned rock club Chances.

Cheer Up's owners Maggie Lea and Tamara Hoover are enthusiastic about the new space but "heartbroken" about losing their outpost on East 6th. Meanwhile, Scott Walker of Wonderland, the bar that will replace Cheer Up Charlie's, says he's hoping to create a "neighborhood" bar. He also says to support Cheer Up's owners, "we gave them a 17 days lease so they can have their new years party – one of the most lucrative nights of the year."

No official word on when Cheer Up Charlie's will reopen on Red River. Wonderland is set to open in early March. The La Corsha Hospitality Group has purchased the entire property, including the adjacent food truck lot, in order to build a hotel, though construction will not start until after 2014.
