KXAN reports that a fire broke out at La Condesa on Saturday afternoon. The blaze started in the kitchen and spread to the ventilation system, and since the restaurant is attached to the AMLI high rise, over 100 firefighters turned out to fight the fire. The cause has been ruled accidental and the fire caused an estimated $75,000 in damages. Eater spoke with owner Jesse Herman, who said,
"Our team is currently in meetings with some of our subcontractors to get together a game plan for the repair work that has to happen. No time frame yet, but hopefully not too long. Cleanup already started yesterday. Fortunately, the fire was isolated in a duct. Huge effort from the La Condesa team kept it under control before it got worse. Big thanks to the Austin Fire Department. Apologies to our customers with reservations, we've been in touch with them to let them know. We'll be back soon!"
La Condesa will also be releasing updates via Facebook.
