La Barbecue Moving to East 6th and Waller

Lauded barbecue trailer La Barbecue confirms on Facebook that they are on the move to the east side. On December 4th, the trailer will move to the lot behind the old Uptown Sports building at East 6th and Waller. The space was previously occupied by Curra's 'La Hipsta' trailer. La Barbecue previously said the move is due to their South First lot being sold, though The Statesman says the landlord wanted to make "changes." A representative from La Barbecue says they picked the space:

"Because it's perfect. We're sad to leave South First but excited at the possibilities on the east side. If all works out we plan extending our hours to 6pm to catch the happy hour crowds. That is if the food holds out, and we don't sell it all before that."

La Barbecue owner LeAnn Mueller's brother and former pitmaster, John Mueller, has been operating John Mueller Meat Co. a mile further east on East 6th since February. Franklin Barbecue is also less than a mile from La Barbecue's new location, and up-and-comers Micklethwait, Kerlin BBQ, and Live Oak are all nearby as well. Will Central East Austin ever hit peak barbecue? Or will it reign forever as the city's brisket capital?
