Changes are afoot at Barley Swine, Bryce Gilmore's lauded small plates restaurant. According to the press release, Barley Swine will be switching to serving a "daily menu of shared plates at a fixed price," on Tuesday, November 12. Eater has received word that this menu has been de facto in effect for several weeks now (with patrons having the option to order a la carte if they prefer). In addition, Barley Swine will be moving away from its all-communal seating model and offering a large portion of its seating to Open Table reservations. They will also be closed Sundays and Mondays.
All of these changes in advance of Gilmore's new restaurant Odd Duck opening later this month. The entire press release is below.
THE EVOLUTION OF BARLEY SWINEIn anticipation of Bryce Gilmore's second brick-and-mortar, Odd Duck, slated to open late fall, Barley Swine is evolving and making minor changes to the restaurant.
Effective Tuesday, November 12, Barley Swine will serve a daily menu of shared plate offerings at a fixed price. As the menu seasonally changes, the number of courses and price will vary slightly. Current offerings and pricing will be updated daily on the website."When people come into Barley Swine they typically order the entire menu. We are making it a little easier for the guests and offering them a full menu to enjoy for a really great price. We always want the guest to have the full Barley Swine experience and by letting the kitchen cook for you, they definitely will," Bryce Gilmore says of the adjustments to the restaurant.
The restaurant is taking away a few seats and will no longer be all communal, making for a more intimate dining experience. Twenty-eight seats will be set aside for reservations, made via OpenTable, and eight seats will be available for walk-ins. The Barley Swine staff will follow up on all reservation requests, allowing the kitchen to accommodate dietary restrictions and seating preferences to the best of their ability. In addition, a few tables will be lowered to the ground, for a more traditional type of seating.
Hours at Barley Swine will also change slightly. As of November 12, the hours are Tuesdays through Thursdays, 5:30PM – 10PM, and on Fridays and Saturdays, 5PM – 11PM. Starting the week of Sunday, November 10, Barley Swine will be closed Sundays and Mondays. Reservations can be made now for these new hours and updates.
As the opening of Odd Duck draws nearer, Barley Swine will, as always, continue to evolve by enhancing the delicious and comfortable dining experience Austinites have grown to love. With Odd Duck opening, patrons will have two different options from the same kitchen crew a stone's throw away.
