El Chile is keeping Austin on its toes. Yesterday, Republic of Austin reported that the Manor Road location will reopen today. The location shuttered last spring for the restaurant's move down to South First. A number of options, including a reincarnated Red House Pizzeria and a Peruvian cafe, were floated for the space. Then, last month, owner Carlos Rivero announced it would return to its true identity: another El Chile.
Republic of Austin also broke the news that the shuttered Flat Top Burger Shop, owned by the El Chile Group, is going to become a cantina. El Chile's rep explains that, "The new concept will be an eclectic spin-off of El Chile." The cantina will serve burgers from Flat Top and dishes from long-closed El Gringo, as well as offering Mexican bar snacks not on the menu at El Chile. They hope to be open in time for the holiday season.
To recap: El Chile on South First is still open, El Chile on Manor is opening today, Flat Top is becoming a cantina, and, oh yeah, a new El Chilito will open soon at Manchaca and Redd Street. Got it? Phew.
