WEST SIXTHThe Austin Business Journal reports that a new dessert lounge is in the works for 1401 W. Sixth Street. Called Nightcap, it's the brainchild of Kenichi "Senior Ambassador of Fun" Christin Rowan and pastry chef Josh Matlock. The concept will include "sparkly cocktails" and is intended to be "new to Austin." With Foreign and Domestic's Jodi Elliott bringing bakery and dessert bar Bribery to the east side, will it be dessert bar wars?

BEER WEEK — In addition to Cocktail Week 2013, it's also Austin Beer Week. Tonight's highlight is a dinner at Snack Bar with Jester King at 7pm, where the brewery will be offering special beers paired with a seasonal menu.

SOUTH LAMARThe Chronicle profiles Lawrence Eguakun of food truck Wasota African Cuisine, who has a long and moving history with the Austin food scene. He ran World Beat Cafe from 1999 - 2006, when he was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma. He survived, but World Beat Cafe did not, since he had to go to Houston for treatment. A former customer helped him invest in a trailer in 2011, and he someday hopes to have a brick and mortar restaurant again. He says when old customers seek him out, "it brings tears to my eyes."
