"Season two" of the day-long Chicago Restaurant Pastry Competition is here, and it features Uchi's director of culinary operations Philip Speer, who competes against three other pastry chefs. It's all documented in a non-reality reality series that's meant to "showcase the reality of a pastry chef kitchen, rather than the drama and glamour shown on cable television."
For example, shit gets really real when the chefs choose plates, and there are riveting moments such as when the host observes, "There go the organic currants." Speer himself doesn't seem to be particularly cowed by the competition: "So, I'll get here, I'll eat some breakfast, and I'll watch. And then I'll go. And then I'll collect my prize."
