Fruit pies. Cream pies. Pizza pies. All the pies, they are coming to southwest Austin in the form of Pieous, a new restaurant going into the old Cartwright's Famous BBQ spot on Highway 290. Proprietor Joshua Kaner tells Eater Austin via e-mail: "Been wanting to do this my whole life, so let's just say that we are first and foremost driven by the passion for the food."
Pieous will be pie-centric, but not pie-exclusive, baking their own sourdough in-house, serving "really fresh" salads with house-made dressing as well as beer and wine. Writes Kaner:
"We're going to be serving pies, both authentic wood-fired Neapolitan ones with house-made mozzarella and fruit and cream pies. To make things even more delicious, and to utilize the space that was the old Cartwrights BBQ, we'll be smoking some great pastrami and pizza toppings."Pieous is slated to open by the end of the month.
