A reminder that Austin is the best kind of college town: the University of Texas' American Studies department has teamed up with Foodways Texas and the Texas Restaurant Association to gather oral histories of "iconic" Texas restaurants. In Austin proper, that history includes Matt's El Rancho, a favorite of President Lyndon B. Johnson. Recalls Matt's co-founder Janie Martinez: "He was the sweetest man." [Austin360]
