The first of many highly anticipated fall restaurant openings is here: Parind Vora's Bar Mirabeau, the more informal of two new ventures (upscale Restaurant Jezebel is set to open in an adjacent site in October), has opened downtown at West Sixth Street and West Avenue. Bar Mirabeau is open starting at 7 a.m. weekdays for breakfast, lunch and dinner (brunch starts at 9 a.m. on weekends). Why "Bar Mirabeau" as a name? Why, in honor of second Republic of Texas president Mirabeau B. Lamar of course:
"He wholeheartedly believed that foundational ingredients are responsible for greatness. For him it was education and vision. For us, it is a house-made menu, expertly prepared, and adeptly served by professionals.Per the website, Vora and Mirabeau's chef Bill McGrory, who's worked for the likes of Bobby Flay and Tom Colicchio in addition to executive cheffing at Taverna here in Austin, are going for a "genteel atmosphere" and "extensive menu." If the many menus available online are any indication, they've definitely nailed at least one of those.
