Welcome to Front & Center, a series highlighting front of the house professionals in Austin restaurants. We've asked local industry folks, media types and food fans to tell us who makes dining out in Austin a pleasure—if you'd like to throw in your two cents, there's room for that, too.
Austin food writer Layne Lynch, whose byline you'll recognize from Texas Monthly, writes that her favorite front-of-house staffer is "genuine soul" Darren Leroy at 24 Diner:
My favorite front-of-house staffer has to be Darren Leroy of 24 Diner. My best friend Elena and I have this weekly breakfast meeting at 24 Diner where we catch up with each other and always order the exact same thing - six egg whites with veggie sausage and fruit. (Weird, right?). We first met Darren about a year-and-a-half ago at breakfast and as the weeks have gone by we've just fallen in love with his warm, inviting personality.· All Front & Center Coverage on Eater Austin [-EATX-]
He is a genuine soul and always makes you feel welcome and appreciated when you walk through the door. He probably knows more about us than most of our other friends, simply because he is so easy to talk to and confide in. I don't know many people like that, and I can't express enough gratitude to him for making our breakfast experience so awesome each and every week.
