If you're pregnant, have a heart condition, suffer from serious back problems, are subject to motion sickness or have other health problems that may make you more vulnerable to injury, do not read CultureMap's list of the 12 best burgers in Austin. The thing is, "They're not where you think." Or, per KVUE's reposting of the list, it "may surprise you."
Prepare to be shocked by picks like the little-known Hut's Hamburgers and P. Terry's, which even long-time Austinites will be surprised to find serve tasty hamburgers. Then, tucked away on a stretch of Sixth Street often wholly abandoned even during such busy times as SXSW is Casino El Camino, and almost no one has heard of Mighty Fine Burgers, least of all the piddling readership of Texas Monthly, which named their fare to its 2009 list of best burgers in Texas.
And with just two Austin locations and one forecasted for Dallas, Hopdoddy is another dark horse, while Parkside only just made it on former Statesman critic Mike Sutter's top 10 burgers list, which is also available as an iPhone app for Austin's tiny handful of smartphone users. But these are just a few hamburger places CultureMap Austin has unearthed that you may never have thought to visit before. Be sure to check with your doctor before reading the rest, to make sure you're healthy enough for listicle activity.
