Austin photographer Jeff Scott's Notes From A Kitchen is an 18-pound photographic homage to cheffing. The Austin American-Statesman profiles Scott and his work this week, as the book has been nominated for a James Beard Foundation award for food photography--though the only Texas chef featured is Joel Harrington of Stephan Pyles in Dallas. Via the Statesman:
And in the era of celebrity chefs with rock star status, overly staged cooking competition shows and legions of food bloggers and tweeters, Scott wanted something weighty and real that deliberately, and literally, slowed down the chatter. If you love books for their bookieness, Scott's special edition Notes From A Kitchen is available from his website for $150."I love objects for their objectness and (with these books) I'm kind of forcing a physical object into someone's space," he says.
