Last September, West Sixth's The Belmont closed "indefinitely and without warning," per an e-mail sent around to guests who'd booked events at the bar and restaurant. All kinds of folks were left in the lurch. But a Craigslist employment ad today tipped us off to some potentially exciting news: the Belmont is now hiring and intends to open for SXSW.
Confirmation comes from the folks at the Tavern, a few owners of which have purchased the Belmont as part of a group of "local Austin businessmen," according to Tavern general manager Oliver Belche. He writes, via e-mail: "It's going to be awesome! We will be open for SXSW and then close to complete the kitchen remodel and are shooting for a 4/1 grand opening for the restaurant and bar."
