Jack Allen's Round Rock Gets Love; Balon Chains It Up

New, 5 comments

Here's where Austin food critics, bloggers, and Rob Balon ate this week:

AUSTIN CHRONICLE — Angela Shelf Medearis can't say enough nice awesome great amazing wonderful things about the new Round Rock location of Jack Allen's Kitchen, a "mirror image of the excellent service and delicious items at the original Oak Hill location." She uses the word "perfect" four times.

KVUE — Hey, foodies! Rob Balon and his incredible Cosby sweater visit some location of the Jim's Restaurant chain, which he describes as "One of the premiere family eateries in the entire Central Texas area, 'kay?" and "One of the few places in Austin where you can get breakfast 'round the clock." High praise: "the food is consistent." There's even a very rare bit of criticism: Balon's "not wild about their grits."

FOODIE IS THE NEW FORTY — The new Pinthouse Pizza brewpub on Burnet Road makes Michelle Cheng's top ten, but not top five, pizza joints in town. Cheng writes that the place was "LOUD" and crowded on a Friday night, but they hovered over and eventually scored a table. She found the Cannonball pizza "surprisingly tasty" but didn't dig the poblano peppers on the Armadillo pie.
