This week, Austin critics stopped at two notable south-of-the-border restaurants, Manuel's and El Alma. At the Austin Chronicle, Virginia B. Wood reports that after 25 years in business, Manuel's still doesn't disappoint despite higher prices than ever, recommending the Baja Taquitos de Callo de Hacha and the new ceviche appetizer. At the Statesman, Matthew Odam rates El Alma a 7 out of 10, praising the pork-chop, glazed in a "smoky and mildly sweet pasilla-Coke sauce" and the shrimp chelada, though he reckons another pinarita cocktail would have beaten his "unremarkable coconut flan."
