The owners of Austin-based Verts Kebap, both native Germans, hope to start a "döner kebap awakening" in the United States. The Austin Chronicle profiles the fast-casual kebap restaurant and owners Michael Heyne and Dominic Stein, who compare döner kebap in Germany to Tex-Mex food in Texas: "Now days, döner kebap [which was first served in Germany by Turkish immigrants] doesn't even exist in Turkey."
