22 Trattoria: Neapolitan Pizza Coming To Clarksville

New, 2 comments

Back in October we wondered what was up with this new-fangled "Twenty-Two" restaurant under construction on West Sixth Street, and now we wonder no longer, thanks to a press release announcing the advent of 22 Trattoria and Wine Bar. From a couple of the folks who brought you the Kung Fu Saloon and the Brew Exchange, 22 Trattoria will feature Italian food and Neapolitan-style pizzas in a 1922 bungalow. From the release:

“22 Trattoria will offer a moderately priced, delicious menu that features traditional Italian dishes as well as Neapolitan style pizzas baked to perfection,” said Managing Partner John Pennington. The wine cellar will showcase a large number of selections from around the world placed conspicuously close to the tasting area. A full bar & specialty drink menu will also be offered.
The restaurant's scheduled to open in April, and they're already on Twitter and Facebook. Here's the full press release:

In Italy, a Trattoria is a restaurant that serves simple Italian food. In Austin, 22 Trattoria and Wine Bar will be no different; simple food with fresh local ingredients, and simple, delicious wines from across the world.

“We want our customers to feel comfortable and welcome - like they're at home in our little bungalow,” said Managing Partner Chris Horne.

22 Trattoria will be housed in a craftsman era bungalow built in 1922 in the Clarksville area. “We live and work in the area and love the sense of community that can be found throughout the neighborhood,” said Horne.

Inside, Austin architect Jamie Chioco has designed 22 to be in keeping with the original architecture of the structure, with a remodel that features subtle, modern touches. Much of the original wood will be reused during the remodel.

“The structure is a fine example of a past era of architecture; simpler times,” Horne said. “We chose to preserve this in the remodel as much as possible and hope that it will be a relaxing place of enjoyment for all that experience it.”

Outside customers can enjoy a glass of wine or Sunday brunch on a large patio shaded by a humongous 300 year old oak tree. In order to provide the plethora of trees on site with as much nutrients and water as possible, 22 is using a GeoBlock product in conjunction with washed gravel, rather than concrete or pavement for much of the site area.

22 Trattoria and Wine Bar is scheduled to open in April.
