It's a brutal day for Austin restaurants, folks: a tipster has forwarded Eater Austin an email from West Sixth bar The Belmont stating that the restaurant is shuttered as of today. It looks like the following was sent to guests who had events booked/relevant event planners:
We regret to inform you that The Belmont is closed indefinitely and without warning as of today, September 21, 2011. We apologize for the extreme inconvenience this may cause you and your guests...We are sincerely sorry for this and wish you nothing but the best of luck with your event.
Rumors of trouble at the Belmont had been circling for some time, stemming from the departure of chef Ben Nathan who left to work at Chez Zee back in March. First El Arbol shutters, now the Belmont; if bad things happen in threes, who's next?
