Foreign & Domestic will host two "vegetable-focused dinners" cooked by Houston chef Justin Yu, who's made a name for himself in the world of pop-up restaurants. Yu sends out a press release in advance of the official announcement he'll make on his blog wherein he writes that the point of the veggie dinner is to "strengthen the synergy between Houston and Austin as two vibrant food communities." He'll be using food "from farms close to both of our towns." This will be the "first of many" guest chef dinners at Ned and Jodi Elliott's place.
Bobby Heugel of Anvil Bar and Refuge in Austin will do the booze pairings. Two seatings will be Sunday, October 9th and you can start making reservations tomorrow at 10 a.m. Here's how, plus the rest of the press release.
Good afternoon!I'd just like to let all of you know ahead of time before I release any information to the public that I will be putting on two dinners at Foreign and Domestic in Austin, TX on Sunday, October 9th. Chefs Ned and Jodi Elliot has been very gracious to lend us their kitchen for that night to put on two seatings for supper at 5:30 PM and Dinner at 8:30 PM, and we all hope that this will be the first of many guest chef dinners held at Foreign and Domestic showcasing talent from Austin and the cities nearby. As a chef based out of Houston, my goal for this dinner is to strengthen the synergy between Houston and Austin as two vibrant food communities, as well as to celebrate the products of Texas by putting on a Vegetable-focused dinner using products from farms close to both of our towns. Working with me will be Bobby Heugel of Anvil Bar and Refuge who will be pairing wine, beer, beer and wine based cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages with the food, and David Buehrer and Ecky Prabanto of Greenway Coffee and Tea and the upcoming Blacksmith Coffee Bar who will be doing coffee service following the dinner.
As to not bother Chefs Elliot and their staff too much, I'll be handing reservations, which can be made via email at eatdrinkjustins@gmail.com. The cost is $75 per person, inclusive of beverages, to be paid in full ahead of time via PayPal, which will be sent as a request as soon as a reservation confirmation is made. Reservations will be taken starting Tuesday morning at 10 AM.
