Statesman restaurant critic Mike Sutter announced this morning via Twitter that he's leaving the newspaper after being offered "a buyout too good to pass up." The Statesman offered a buyout to 167 employees "at or near retirement age" in early June.
In response to questions about the buyout, fellow Statesman food writer Addie Broyles tweeted "I'm still here, but with even more on my plate." Will Broyles be taking over the restaurant beat? That would sort of kill their restaurant critic anonymity. We reached out to both Sutter and Broyles for comment and will keep you updated.
Sutter hasn't revealed what (if anything) is next for him. His last day is Friday, which means this week's Haddingtons/Contigo writeup may well be his last review.
