Cottage Food Bill Gets Through Legislature

come-and-bake-it-150.jpgSB 81 (aka the Texas Cottage Food Bill), which would allow small-time food producers to be exempt from some commercial kitchen requirements, has passed through the legislature and now just needs Governor Perry's signature to become law. Houston food writer Robb Walsh writes that the bill holds major importance in terms of Texan food, as "some traditional Texas food products, like sorghum syrup, mayhaw and muscadine jelly and dewberry jam, almost disappeared under the current restrictions."
