René Ortiz Is Opening an Asian Restaurant on South First, Too

Chef René Ortiz tells Austinist that the team behind his La Condesa is opening a Thai restaurant on South First and Elizabeth! If that address sounds a little familiar, it's because Larry McGuire is opening a Vietnamese restaurant across the street in the old Bouldin Creek Cofeehouse location. Nothing like a little friendly competition, we guess: Ortiz said South First "will be a nice little neighborhood to go and eat and have fun." Michael Hsu is doing the design.

So, let's get this straight: First these two groups opened restaurants serving the Austin staples of Mexican/barbecue across the street from each other downtown, now they're opening Southeast Asian restaurants across the street from each other in the 78704. What's next, burgers and hot dogs in West Campus?
