The much-pedigreed Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew is now open up on North Lamar, where pitmaster Lance Kirkpatrick gets busy smoking brisket, sausage, ribs, turkey, chicken and pork steaks starting at 3 a.m. Kirkpatrick's a protegé of Mueller family barbecue fame from Taylor, TX, from which owner Shane Stiles also hails.
Eater Austin stopped by this morning to take some meaty photos and talk shop with Stiles and company, including long-time barbecue joint manager James Jackson, who says he on board when he heard Kirkpatrick had signed on, knowing the restaurant would be more than a little legit.
Stiles told us his barbecue place aims to be a neighborhood joint where folks won't be waiting for hours in line, and they're also hoping to get folks in the door come dinner time, a rare offering in a lunch-centric Austin barbecue scene. A craft brew fan, Stiles keeps a long list of requested beers at the register, and while they've got just five on tap now, two more local brews are coming in today and they hope to ultimately have upwards of forty taps.
Stiles Switch BBQ & Brew is open Monday-Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
