South Austin will welcome Cafe Malta, a new pan-Mediterranean restaurant, to its list of growing restaurants later this month. Owners Jessica and Nick Goulding say the cuisine will be more "Tex-Med" than traditional Mediterranean, including ingredients such as avocado, lime, and cilantro.
Jessica and Nick Goulding met in the restaurant and bar scene of New York City 11 years ago, moving to Austin in 2004. Nick is currently the general manager at Habana Restaurant on South Congress. Jessica tells Eater Austin that the chef will be Keith Karp, originally from Michigan but currently a restaurant consultant in Austin for over a year.
Flavors will include inspiration from coastal Italy, Spain, France, Greece, and Morocco. Cafe Malta will also feature a full bar.
Look for Cafe Malta to open by the end of the month, and wish them better luck with business than the countries their cuisine represents.
