We hate to be the bearers of a bunch of financial doom and gloom today, but apparently it's just not a good day to be an Austin institution. After the earlier announcement that the 31-year-old Katz's Deli will be closing shortly after New Year's, now comes word that the two-decade old Artz Rib House has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They intend to stay open while they restructure the business; their debts come in somewhere between $100,000 and $500,000.
Owner Art Blondin had closed the restaurant for a period last year due to his wife being ill, and says the financial troubles were partially due to the fact that he "was trying to do everything." He also says his wife is doing much better now.
