Texas Monthly's December issue will feature a Top 50 Mexican Restaurants in Texas list (they already have Top 50 Burgers and Top 50 Barbecue lists). The cover features a tortilla chip literally dripping with queso, but food editor Pat Sharpe says the list honors a state-wide trend towards Mexican influence that she dubs "Mex-Tex."
Included on the list is Austin's 35 year-old Fonda San Miguel, calling out in particular the chile relleno San Miguel, "a combination that is classic and avant-garde all at once.” The issue will be out next week; in the meantime, ponder the sheer number of enchiladas those editors must have gone through.
