We thought every week was Beer Week in Austin, but the first-ever official Austin Beer Week starts on Saturday. It seems like every bar that has ever had a craft beer on tap has some kind of event going on, and you can find the full list of events on their website. In case you are overwhelmed, though, we've narrowed down the list to one event per day; check out our picks below.
Saturday: Independence Brewing is celebrating their sixth anniversary from 4:00 to 8:00 at their brewery just south of Ben White. Rare and aged brews as well as their anniversary Braggot will be served. Word to the wise: cash only, no ATMs.
Sunday: Both the Ginger Man and the Drafthouse are tapping a rare, aged Crispin cider at 1:00 PM. Two kegs per bar, each one containing an unfiltered cider aged in red wine barrels. We recommend getting there early.
Monday: Just in time for happy hour, take a tour of the brand spankin' new Black Star Co-op at 5:00 with brewer Jeff Young. Bonus: totally free!
Tuesday: All right, know-it-all beer geeks, time to strut your stuff: HomeField Grill is hosting Name That Beer trivia. Five 4 ounce beers per round; there are prizes! 7:30-9:30.
Wednesday: Starting at 6:00, McCormick & Schmick's is serving a five course meal paired with Independence beers. Reservations required.
Thursday: Check out the brand new Jester King beer hall and listen to some jams. Starts at 6:00.
Friday: Get schooled in beer and cheese pairings (and ditch work early!) with the folks from Antonelli's Cheese at the Ginger Man. 3:00 to 4:30, reservations required.
Saturday: The second Saturday of ABW was tough, as there are tons of good events, but the most epic is the Ultimate Brewery and Brewpub Tour.
