Snooze made its Austin debut in May, serving nothing but brunch every day. The daytime menu runs the midmorning gamut from sweet and savory options, plus cocktails. The South Lamar spot is the Colorado chain’s first Texas location, quickly followed by its second on North Lamar. Read on for the early word on the city’s newest brunch addition.
The brunch food — The pancake flight is the resounding hit, where guests can pick any three pancakes ranging from blueberry, sweet potato, to even quinoa. Fans include Zagat Austin, Austin Monthly, blogger Dine With Shayda, and numerous others. Shayda recommended the pineapple upside-down one. She also appreciated how customizable the other dishes were. Austin Monthly went extravagant, ordering "anything that comes with a dollop of heavenly mascarpone."
The wait — Be prepared to wait for a very long time, with quoted times stretching from 30 minutes to nearly two hours on the weekends. Yelper Cynthia L. suggested getting there before 8 a.m. (doors open at 6:30 a.m.) or even opting for a weekday brunch instead.
The service — Because of the massive crowds, service has been a little spotty. Yelper Cynthia L. felt like the staff was "overwhelmed." She thinks the brunch chain should start accepting reservations or create a friendlier waiting area to ease anxious would-be brunchers. That heavy traffic sometimes led to longer waits for food, too. On the other hand, Yelper Stacey T. enjoyed the staffers’ attentiveness that she experienced.
The brunch cocktails — Zagat Austin dug the wide range of boozy drinks available, like the different Bloody Marys and plentiful juice options for mimosas. Yelper Stacey T. even went so far as to say the offerings were "actually liquor-for-breakfast cocktails, " However, Shelby W. wasn't impressed, calling everything "relatively basic."
The space — The retro diner was "bright and airy" to Austin Monthly. Foursquare user Jane Moritz described it as "an interesting take on the breakfast diner." Yelper Jason S. said there’s a "pretty hip vibe" to Snooze.
